insomnia sometimes
brings gifts
if I had not opened
this porch door
at 2 a.m.
& stepped outside
my skin would not have held
unfiltered moonlight,
nor would I have seen Venus
almost as bright as that moon
just now skimming the tips
of the trees of my valley
If only my waking nights could be so luminously greeted.
It is not usually so beautiful. I am taking some Benadryl & off to bed–but I am glad I saw Venus 😉
Wonderfully identifiable to me ~ there’s something special about solitary experiences such as this that can be shared … or not … at whim and will 🙂
😉 yes! So, this morning, I am grateful for the sight of Venus, and now–off to bed for round 2. So far the score is insomnia 1, Susan 0.
Is it because we don’t want it to end
Or because we fear
The dark
Keep it going
Don’t let it stop
You’re an angel of the first degree
So we step out on the front porch
Or the balcony
Look at what’s obvious
What isn’t
What’s not
That’s all there is for now
That’s all there is to see
Very nice, David–I like it! I definitely fall into the “I don’t want to miss anything camp,” so it is because I don’t want it to end…
Very nicely written Susan. What happens by happenstance is sometimes the best of all 🙂
yes, it is!
nicely written, and we all know how far I am willing to go to glimpse a perfect moon
true–I was so surprised to see Venus, piercing through the brightness of that moonlight, I almost ignored that moon.
Amazing poem once again …. your words really linger long after I have read them !!!
oh wow–thanks!
this is a good thing!
I thought so 🙂
you’ve captured that 2am feeling superbly Susan. Sometimes it is like Heaven..a gift of peace.(sometimes it is like being damned to hell.. the bottomless tortuous bowels)
ouch–glad my experience this morning was not one of torture…
no I meant insomnia can be a gift or torture… egads I would NEVER say that…well you do torture me so with your politics..haaa
🙂 I got that–last night’s was a gift. Usually it is just torture…I am trying hard to keep my politics somewhat muted, so I do not lose my beloved conservative friends–in fact, I like/befriend more than a few republicans. Hey–I can exclude you from my liberal FB posts along with my cousin and another pal in Montana–do not want to torture you!
no need to exclude… I can hack it 🙂
OK, hon (hack, as in handle, or hack, as in hack up a hairball?)
laughing… a bit of both.. ha
you certainly made the best of it!
LOL, thanks! One of those very early mornings where the moon is as bright as daylight (almost). Glad I got to see it. Happy Sunday.
That’s a good one!
I get to ” talk” to my mate.
nice!
Lovely. I am terrible with planets, stars etc so I got the Planets app for iPad, I now finally know what’s what. Thanks for a wonderful poem Susan.
🙂 you are one up on me–I had to figure it out from online 😉
It’s a pretty amazing app. You basically point the iPad up at the sky and the image on the screen matches what you’re looking at in 3D, telling you what you’re seeing.
awwww–cool! This science geek is very happy right now…
Yeah it drove me over the edge first time I saw it. Bit of a science geek too. I’ve been dreaming about writing a story about an equation. I should likely give that a try actually.
oh, yes–do it!!!!!!!
all right, will put something together. i know this is odd question, but if you have a favorite equation, let me know.
LOL, here you go!
What is a Quaternion?
A complex number is an imaginary number that is defined in terms of i, the imaginary number, which is defined such that i * i = -1.
A quaternion is an extension of the complex number. Instead of just i, we have three numbers that are all square roots of -1, denoted by i, j, and k. This means that
j * j = -1
k * k = -1
So a quaternion can be represented as
q = w + xi + yj + zk
where w is a real number, and x, y, and z are complex numbers.
Oh boy. Thanks a lot. Imaginary numbers, haven’t come across them since high school.
🙂 you asked…I am a quantum physics nerd. You could just go with e=mc(2)
Wow. Quantum physics nerd. The “nerd” part is redundant there by the way. Okay, well, I will try Susan to put something together but you have given me quite a challenge.
Trent–sorry ;(
I wanted to give you something that almost seemed like poetry in variable form–now I feel like a party pooper. Agreed QP nerd is redundant…If it makes you feel better, I just dug up the equation–I can’t actually solve it or anything 😉
All good, I’m just kidding. I appreciate a challenge.
🙂 Yay!
The night sky, always a captivating sight.
A couple of aural Venuses in memory…
awesome–thanks for sharing!
What a wonderful sight you beheld! Aren’t you lucky? 🙂
Yes 😉
I counted it as an unexpected blessing.
