I meant to write
that great american novel once
so married to the idea
i wanted to keep poetry
comfortably on the side,
straying only
once or twice a week
i never intended him to move in
and take over all my words
yet,
here we are
ready to sign those papers
Read well before you sign on the dotted line! 🙂
Oh, I know 😉
I am somehow drawn to the idea of plural marriage in this instance of wanting them both, but they are such jealous lovers, not sure how it will work out!
is there something called serial monogamy?
alternating monogamy?
🙂 Well, we DO practice the serial form here…could work.
It doesn’t have to be one or the other, just feel comfortable with Big Word!
and here is the voice of reason 😉
I just couldn’t resist the idea of the poem, as it came to me this morning while gardening. Something about the comfortable commitment with prose contrasted with the sheer seductiveness of poetry.
Yeah but don’t forget the great American novel! Someone’s gotta do it. I really like this poem. Personal but not mushy, and spins a great image.
Thanks, Trent–and also thanks for stopping by! I will do my best re. the novel, but it will probably end up being the “somewhat okay American novel” instead.
Haha – it is a witty metaphor!
🙂 thanks, Jessica–was a fun write!
There are few who can sustain the relationship as beautifully as you do…
…can a person who cheats (on writing, anyway) still blush like an innocent? By God, she CAN….
Thanks, Mimi!
I think blushing is very becoming actually…:-)
Good thing, since I do it so often 🙂
Oh Susan… This deserves the Love button with smooches on top. Love it, my heart and face automatically smiled after reading this. Brilliant!!!
Boomie–thanking you!
…with three business days to change your mind. 😉 Personally, I suggest you’re on the right track, but what do I know?
Nelle–you are awesome, and I adore your comments. Have I told you that lately (or ever?). Cuz I do 🙂
Read and sign 🙂
🙂
You’ve put it nicely and romantically, Susan. Maybe you need to sign a ‘pre-nuptial’ lol!
Brilliant!
