squashed

gold and green on vines
summer’s ripe frantic giving
past appreciation

of this heaviness
heaving into sight
desperate for handling

rolling our eyes,
tired of phallic snickers
already

how many times
is something so green
so generous

going to announce itself
in the morning
& demand attention
just like an…

no.  I said
I was already tired
of vegetal
erection jokes

About Susan L Daniels

I am a firm believer that politics are personal, that faith is expressed through action, and that life is something that must be loved and lived authentically--or why bother with any of it?

Next year, grow marrows, impress the neighbours.

  2. Rhonda says:

NO JOKES? You mean I can’t leave a joke? Awww, do you know how “hard on” me that is? 😉

  3. unfetteredbs says:

smiling at you tonight… and the comments. Thank you

    • Thanks, Audra. Glad it made you smile. Now tell me…do you want some summer squash!?!

      • unfetteredbs says:

laughing.. I do not eat squash. I won;t even lick it. Now give me a nice big solid cucumber… and then we can talk

        • LOL, I have those too–less problematic because I can pickle them. Not as frighteningly phallic, either, as I grow the gherkins 😉

          • unfetteredbs says:

you are an earthy woman eh? I am the anti gardener. Most of my friends are high from gardening this time of year. they get all wacky on me.

            • I love to grow things. Outside. I kill any kind of house plant. I don’t go too crazy with the gardening–but this time of year I have been known to leave grocery bags full of zukes on unsuspecting neighbors’ porches.

  4. Extremely difficult for a non-gardener to fully follow these engaging exchanges or even to understand the poem proper! A picture speaks a thousand words – so please just one picture would help a zillion! It is hard when a male follows such fruity and juicy discussions! would a picture or a diagram make it less hard or harder? me wonders! 🙂

  6. I’ve followed all the comments and I am alaughing so hard here. You guys are just ‘coming on’ strong with all this heat! Poor zucchinis! I pray they don’t ‘wither’!
