if I say nothing

if I say nothing
keep this heart sewn closed
as my mouth

if I just speak

if I
just speak

if I just
speak

my eyes their truth

and voice
frames no words

for you to spin

if I say nothing
you
force words in my mouth

rough and bitter

not tasting
of anything I would say

and I will
spit them out

back to you

justifying anger

I did not shape

from the beginning

silence is not enough

it is time
for these feet to move

where you will not follow

About Susan L Daniels

I am a firm believer that politics are personal, that faith is expressed through action, and that life is something that must be loved and lived authentically--or why bother with any of it?
