that boy, who should stay 17
the one I never dated
but first learned to slow-dance with
at a Christmas party to a song
I have forgotten, but still
remember how, even in height
with my shoes kicked off
his cheek brushed mine;
just a flicker
in my stories, but sweet
that one pressed memory
revived for a moment
each time I pass the house
we danced in, and sigh
we met on the street
and for a moment
I saw that boy
through the man
and my 1983 girl
surfaced for a moment
Love it and so relate to it. Had a recent experience like it with the first boy who ever kissed me, both our first kisses. You just never forget it do you?
Smiled after reading this 🙂
Thank you…was a nice memory.
I never had any first school-memories since I wasn’t allowed to attend because of my trachtenberg and liabilities so, I finished all my schooling by tutor & phone classes~But, I had a beautiful blessing to meet a guy at 28 [my 1st crush] that simply worshiped me and I, him…. we only looked at each other and just once, once he held my face between his hands & whispered “Princess don’t ever stain your pure soul!” I’ve never loved another that way. Your poem is a beautiful corsage! Thanks always Susan ~Deb

Beautiful! you describe it so well ….and memory lane returns with all its enchanting magic! well done, Susan! You know what Susan? That “1983 girl/boy” lives forever in most of us – and we shuttle back and forth from it and we nvigate through life!
