this is yours
because today you coaxed out
a smile from where it hid
in a corner, pale and dusty
and it flew to my lips
and stayed sweet
because your gifts are a rush
of hummingbird wings
on my eyelids, a necklace
of fireflies
and sun stroking my cheek
with gentle assurance
that this warming is welcome
a touch I lean into
this is yours because you make joy
less fleeting and more a palpable thing
BEAUTIFUL! Awesome!
Thanks so much–very glad you like it 🙂
This is what I decided to do at the end of my shift, instead of working honestly… And glad I did!
Wonderful imagery, Susan. Very palpable indeed in strokes and wings and fireflies, reflecting so well the joy you describe.
Thank you so much, George.
very nice indeed. i know it can be a reflective but can certainly see it as if written to the muse.
Thank you, Don!
yes this is soo soft and so very sweet. Very warm and loving..
Thanks so much!
May your day remain so…at least the day yes? Beautiful
Thanks so much Rhonda–started out that was…
You sure made me smile with you symphony of words, beautiful gift Susan! Thank you.
Thank you Patricia
Nice…almost feels like it’s set to music.
Thanks, Nelle–I believe I was humming something when I wrote this, or was it the music of those wings? In either case, it does have an unconscious musicality to it–I cannot take conscious credit for the beauty, it was written deep in the brain and came out whole.
I know what you mean on one level, I feel the same on the sourcing inside, but… you most certainly can – and should – take credit. You have a hell of a skill, so take a bow or two!
Will do–and thanks–I am giving the unconscious an opportunity to bow here, but she is having none of it…
I was right. It’s music. You were humming! I told u one day u gonna hit platinum! Beautiful symphony of words!! I love it.
Thanks again, Patricia 🙂 I am so glad you liked my song!
I think I am as crazy as you. I should take up Noel’s challenge. START writing my thoughts! That will stop my ” mood swings” and keep me in a straight line of WRITING!!Lol!
Hmmm–I would have to know you better before I agree or disagree about the crazy comment, but I like your brand of sanity, that’s for sure. LOL, Patricia, my writing is never in a straight line, but one thing I do not do is argue with my duet partner–Noel is spot on about things poetic–so if he says write, then by all means, do so! Do not know if writing things out with stop your mood swings or not–my writing swings with my moods–but the world can only be made richer by your added voice 🙂
I understand this,, there’s no real purpose or reason to smile then, suddenly just the smallest spark sets the fire! Another gem! Blessings ~Deborah
Yes, a lovely spark 🙂 Thank you!
What a lovely way to thank your love 🙂
🙂 Thank you…and he did make me smile so effortlessly.
