we should not throw truths
at each other like stones
aimed to hurt,
or scar forever;
use the knives
our tongues can become
to hamstring each other
yes, words can join
& they can build
a bridge between us
or we can use them
to vivisect
this live thing that was us
until it at last breaks free
from all the cutting
& finds a quiet, wordless place
to finally finish bleeding
This is strong and powerful. Truth as stones! that struck and stuck! and the wonderful way you recognise that words can build or tear down. Great poem.
Thank you Noel–I was thinking about James 3, 5-12, as I was rereading this 🙂
Great organ, muscle/tissue for building up or tearing down, for peace or for war, for pleasure or for joy!
ah–your comments are always so spontaneously brilliant or beautiful, most of the time they inspire more lines!
These you write touch my scars, wow.
Thank you, Nelle. I, one of the few times in my life, am at a loss for words. Think I said them all right there. Glad they reached you, though.
