It’s only too late when you’re dead

my mother
& my father’s brother
took me out to lunch
after they got married

sweet to see her blush
& soften like a girl
when he took her hand

& he smiled
like an Olympic winner,
only with less pride
& more gentleness

they found love
at 68 and 82,
long after they were looking for it

which I guess is the whole point.

About Susan L Daniels

I am a firm believer that politics are personal, that faith is expressed through action, and that life is something that must be loved and lived authentically--or why bother with any of it?
