My son was shocked today
to learn beef came from cows.
If it wasn’t so easy;
if food still had
its original shock value:
Hooves, scales, feathers
& all,
How many of us would eat meat?
****Okay, so I try to buy free-range, grass-fed, cruelty-free meat, blah, blah, blah…. But, really, how kind are we going to be when we kill it to eat it? Β This poem was generated while strolling through the meat department–all clean, tidy, and wrapped in cellophane, and not a hoof, foot, or feather in sight.
Lol, I’m sure I’d become a vegetarian! I know, that’s terribly shameful of me, but I’m a wimp;-)
I am pretty sure I would, too. Now, way back when, I actually pulled pin feathers from a bunch of chickens my dad and uncle were “processing.” In return, my aunt & uncle gave us a whole bunch of chickens, and I wouldn’t touch ONE bite of those particular birds–it was too personal for me π
I’ve always said if I had to kill my food it would live to a ripe old age. Want to experience shock? My daughter (when she was 5 yrs old) ran across a bag of live crawfish. She screamed so loud the man behind the meat counter came out to see what was wrong. She thought they were selling bugs. π
well..technically, they were selling cousins of bugs, so she wasn’t that far off–don’t they call them mud bugs in Louisiana?
π
Yes they do! π
now, that’s an idea for your blog–all I would do is write a poem about it π
some kids are also shocked to learn that milk comes from cows! Time to revamp the nursery curriculum!
Yes, it is–and here in the US–sadly, most kids think peas come from a can….This was meant to be tongue-in-cheek, but it is disturbing.
yeah, indeed! lol!
Kids are pretty smart~Thanks
