The man on the moon

One man, his steps
small down the ladder, but how many hands made this one
step possible to touch moon gravel
for the first time, how many minds dreamed this
man dancing in a vacuum

a moment, the moon a bright curving
giant captured in white, shadowless.
leap, man on the moon, ghostlike on the  film, skip
for the lens, sun-blinded, while
mankind watches

my mother let us stay up
to see this
me in my blue-flowered nightgown
crosslegged on the floor
her saying–remember this
we are watching history

a three-year-old
does not understand
the significance of the man
almost floating off a ladder
walking on the moon
through television snow–
later, I will wave
to the man on the moon
every night
and know he is not that
cratered face
smiling at me
but the astronaut

so tentative at first,
walking
then running
on the moon

***my offering for Dverse this week.

ghost dreaming

Dreamhopper by Borg De Nobel

Dreamhopper by Borg De Nobel, used by permission, from http://borgeous.wordpress.com/

this dream
leaps too tall
for the snares i lay down
to trap it

in the morning

i will remember
simply skipping
outside flesh

and call it

flying

Beautiful Blogger Award

Hi Everyone!  Cristina-Monica Moldoveanu, extremely talented poet and blogger, has nominated me for the Beautiful Blogger Award.  Thanking Cristina so much for the nomination, and please do visit her at the link with her name–her poetry is gorgeous, and worth second, third, and fourth reads.

I am scraping the bottom of the barrel on things you don’t know about me, but I will try to come up with a few more.

  1. Like Cristina, I am also needing to lose weight (not getting any better with the quitting-smoking thing–just hopped on the scale and found out I gained back every pound I just lost), so have just said to myself–self, forget just strolling in the morning and calling it a casual attempt at physical fitness–USE the gym membership and get busy.  Also thinking about limiting carbs and meat in the diet.
  2. Joining Weight Watchers to help with #1.  Seems odd, really, to pay a company to simply eat less, but worth a shot.
  3. Right now, I am having a problem with plumbing, since the pipe thing a few days ago.  I now have water, but a baby urinates with more force than what is coming out of my taps–just called to whine and complain about it, and will be addressed.  I told you I was scraping the bottom of the barrel here, people, sorry!

Wow, that’s sad.  Can’t think of one more thing you guys would want to hear about, so that’s what you get–3 things.  I think I am going to have to start not accepting these awards any more–at least until I can come up with more exciting things for my list!

As for nominations, I nominate all of you, because you are wonderful!

Write Life – oil on fabric covered foam, Japan clay, wood / Daeng Buasand

the poem I wanted to write

there was a poem
this morning
looping colored cursive arcs
on the ceiling

ready for paper–

it was something simple

like how your voice
wings to my ears
& our laughing braids across miles
or is it inches

between us

the degrees
of separation
are unclear
to me, somehow
debatable

but I had words
waiting
that spoke to this

that I wrote
with water ink
on leaves

blown off
& gone

before they could
be caught
