melt

spring begins
not with crocuses
or tree budding

but with snow softening
over raw mud

not so much happening
as unmaking

that slow thing
in the north
we call thaw

Welcome to mud season..ugh. BUT, if it means no more snow, it’s worth it. Let the thaw begin! Happy Spring sfam

  2. What is this new free verse? I like it. I like the mud!

  3. I wonder if I might like thaw better actually even with the mud–we are too warm here now, but that is not how it used to be–

“raw mud” reminds me of growing up in the midwest, the mud before the green comes back. Fine work, Susan.
