spring begins
not with crocuses
or tree budding
but with snow softening
over raw mud
not so much happening
as unmaking
that slow thing
in the north
we call thaw

I am a firm believer that politics are personal, that faith is expressed through action, and that life is something that must be loved and lived authentically--or why bother with any of it?
Welcome to mud season..ugh. BUT, if it means no more snow, it’s worth it. Let the thaw begin! Happy Spring sfam
You too! Where there’s no ice, there’s mud. Prefer that to the ice 😉
🙂
What is this new free verse? I like it. I like the mud!
Thanks, Angie!

I wonder if I might like thaw better actually even with the mud–we are too warm here now, but that is not how it used to be–

Thanks so much. There are only so many ways to look at things, and I think sometimes we poets like to see them upside down, or sideways 😉
You are so right!!
“raw mud” reminds me of growing up in the midwest, the mud before the green comes back. Fine work, Susan.
