If this love
is all that’s left,
let me gnaw it
let me scrape all taste
from its bones,
if bones it is,
and crack them
for marrow.
I am less committed
than hungry,
bone sucking.
Sucking bone,
(more) hungry than
committed,
less am I
than this need
to not waste one shred
of sustenance.
very Good, Susan.
Thanks, Tink!
Terrific. Sharp. K.
K, thank you!
nice…you did end up giving it a try…and pulled it off well….nice grit in this….the bone sucking cracking to get at the marrow…vivd….framed nice to if this is love…
Brian, thank you! I will leave the fancier palindroming to masters, such as yourself and Obinna 😉
Oh, the imagery is just beyond amazing. I love less committed than HUNGRY! That describes me, just, quite entirely. I want that phrase tied to my bones somehow…
Thanks, Shrinks–I am fairly sure it is, my tiger with an axe 😉
Oof. I know this feeling. Beautifully done, Susan.
Thank you, Eric!
Oh Susan….Love it! One of my faves!
Oh, thanks, Lady! Been thinking about bone gnawing this week for some reason–knew it was going to make it into something this week…
I’m so glad it did!
All from watching my dog’s passionate affair with a pork shoulder bone 😉
Had to do it!
🙂 Now I love it even more! That’s amazing! I love how you connect things to like that. I really should get back to connecting to things. That’s what you just taught me!
Awesome! Thanks, Lady…just walk around with a thin poetic skin (as you do already), and you will find the poem in everything.
I must! It must be the winter blues I’ve caught. That’s why I love your blog-when I’m uninspired, you always inspire me! The things you write about, make me read books I have locked away, make me call old friends-It’s true. You inspire me.
Oh, am honored and humbled to hear you say that. Thanking you!
You are most welcome!
vivid words
Thanks, C. The inspiration for this, believe it or not, was my dog with a pork shoulder bone. Not sure if the little dog was committed or hungry.
Probably both
Either way, he was getting into the center, no matter how long it took 😉
That’s just beautiful, Susan.
Thanks, Georgia!
Wow, Susan–very well done. Isn’t it a bear of a form, though?
It is a bear, and while I respect bears, I want them to be out of sight, in the wild 😉
Guess that’s my way of saying no way in HELL will this become a regular form in my work… Laughing.
No, this won’t be one of my everyday forms either. But thanks for joining in, Susan and giving it a go.
Gayle ~
It was fun to use as a device, though… Thanks so much for the prompt!
love the “meat” of this…it speaks to me about a topic i am struggling with….thank you.
Oh, thank you!
Loving the taste of this bone soup ~ Smiles ~
Thanks, Grace 😉
Your bone soup is much sexier than mine….
😉
Aw, JCC. I liked your bone soup. Amazing what watching a dog fall in love with a treat can bring to the surface, though 😉
Very sharp. Brilliant. X
Thanks, Melanie.
Oh yes, I know that hunger. Powerful write!
Thanks so much, Rowan!
Fantastic!
Maybe the sight of your dog working his way into the bone inspired this poem, but how it resonates with passion! A pure delight.
Oh, Beth–thank you!
Interesting poem
(very little palindrome, that I see)
But the passion without commitment, the greed is stark. It seems either critical, desperate or confused or all of those.
Yes, Sabio–TINY amount of palindrome–just used it as a device, not a theme or form throughout.
This felt primal to me and reading the inspiration in the comments, I see why. Nice write!
Thanks, Heidi!
Ah, yes. I think the good stuff is deep within. Nicely done, Susan!
CHarles, thank you!
speechless! this is so amazingly fine!
Oh, thank you!
Wow…good one, with all kinds of cool imaginings sparked.
Thanks, Nelle! I have never been inspired by watching a dog chew a bone before…that focus, that intent passion had to be translated into a human passion.
That transition from your dog’s pork chop bone to this stunning poem was divine. I mean, just, yes …
Wow, you have turned me several shades of red this morning, Adriene. Thank you!
