I am the voice of rain
on a tin roof
bringing dreams
I am both
flight & chase–
the running doe
& the arrow
shot & singing
through morning
the missed chance.
the flash in the stream.
catch me
if your hands can hold
light & water

The magic in the last stanza – it grips, the imagery….yes, we can touch water, yes, we can break the stream of light particles, but no, we cannot hold either of these.
The second stanza haunts me – this image of the hunt – the prey and instrument of predation both in motion, but for different reasons….sad, but poignant.
Thanks, Noel. Woke up with this in my ears. In my thoughts as I wrote this, the arrow misses.
Susan your first and last stanza work together but the imagery in the middle does not connect them and seems unclearas to what is happening and why. You got good bones.>KB
Thanks, KB. Was trying to capture simultaneous chase and flight in one movement. Tricky stuff.
Now this is my fix!
I am both
flight & chase–
the running doe
I am the cause and effect
the residue of and the substance… these lines define me more that ever. I can relate with this a zillion times. Just imagine how we are united by words… for we are both givers and takers… Sublime!
Obinna–here is one of the three or four Igbo words I know–Dalu 😉
You so “got” this! We are givers and takers, yes; hunters and hunted, yes; the action and the reaction. So pleased you liked this!
Did I mention that I love Northern Cree Singers? Meen their pow wow’s just rocks me silly. “Stay Red”, “War Cry” “Jingle Dress Dance” “Grand Entry” “Intertribal Dance” “The NDN” etc…. I have more than 100 of their songs (my eclectic taste for poetry spread into music too…)
Oh, that’s wonderful! My musical tastes range from classical to jazz, to folk to rock, you name it–I am all over the place musically.
Lovely – you capture something essential that has nagged in my orbit at times.
I run to you
while I run from
Rarely certain
Which one
Likewise I love the final stanza.
Mike, thank you! Yes, that whole chase/flight thing has me entranced.
A little playfulness…

LOL, perfect!
Love it. Start to finish, including the middle. Rockin’
Thanks, sis!
