such small differences kill
separating out the other
when the other
looks just like you
measured by the twist of a tongue
parsley, just one small sprig of green
dressing a plate
the way you say it
is the difference between a casual wave forward
or a bullet in the brain

About Susan L Daniels
I am a firm believer that politics are personal, that faith is expressed through action, and that life is something that must be loved and lived authentically--or why bother with any of it?
Just read the story on this. Shame the lengths we go to hurt ourselves… Terrible shame
It so is shameful–not the first time accents betrayed & killed us, and not the last, either.
definitely a social message here. even though this is very much to the extreme, it is much like any clique that singles out those that are different in my opinion.
Yes, and you are right–it is the same thinking, only with deadly results.
Horrible! Thanks for sharing, Susan!
Thanks, Ken. The absurdity to what lengths some will go to as a species to eliminate whom or what we see as other continues to stun. Aren’t we all the same animal underneath?
Yes, we are, but some carry way more bad than good in them.
Yes, agreed. Perhaps the bad is given more room to fester as soon as one enters into an “us” versus “them” mindset–there one refuses to see that “they” are the same as “us.” Ugh.
Yes, conditions do play a role in this. Money f.i. tends to bring about bad things in people, but so does poverty.
Yes–money, and the lack of it. Perhaps it is indeed the root of all evil (or at least pretty close to it).
May be so, but it sure helps 🙂
🙂 I like it, that’s for sure…
*shivers*
yeah–me too. Unbelievable, what we do to each other.
my my Susan u hit the nail on the head! I’ve been crucified today over being too this or that~ I love your sensitivity !
Oh, thanks, Deb.
Troubling!
Oh, it is heartbreaking, what we do to separate ourselves and excuse atrocity!
Language – the marker of the in-group and the other
yes.
OMG! I don’t know what to say, Susan.
I know, Celestine. What we do to each other.
