mind over mind

not mind over matter
that mind mastering flesh
that is subject to it anyway
with its quiet cravings

but mind over mind
in a wrestling match
limbic system shouting over
the reasonable cortex
its wants

and self
jumping between poles
of craving and reason
attempting balance
on steep slopes
and slipping on substance
shaped to trip and bruise
the best intentions

About Susan L Daniels

I am a firm believer that politics are personal, that faith is expressed through action, and that life is something that must be loved and lived authentically--or why bother with any of it?
