the new lot’s wife

if I look back

once
let it not be salt that dissolves
that is all that is left of me
standing here

but a stronger substance,
let me become diamond hardness
a core that scratches iron

but prismatic, sparkling,
and priceless

let me be clear

    Lot’s wife looked back in longing, not wanting to leave her debauched world behind. Her heart’s true want resulted in her fate.
    Your look back would be akin to moving forward but not wanting to forget where you came from…as carbon is to diamond…your present and future are built upon the knowing and learning from your past, not regret for leaving or want of keeping things as they were.
