the voice
in those old poems
is beautiful
but so much
aware of herself
preening
in the mirror
so long grooming
& perfecting the image
she forgot
what she was
trying to say
using it
if I have a choice
I will keep the mature throat
that knows it must open
to both breathe
& sing
Ah, youth. Wasted on the young! If only we had what we had THEN with what we know now! Perfection! Lovely Susan, as usual.

Thanks, Rhonda!
Lovely! Ecclesistes 3:1 and 1 Cor 13:11
Noel, those verses fit so perfectly–thanks for sharing them!
I definitely sense that what you are saying is a poet really has to let go and “Devil may care” to really write. I would have to agree.
Spot on, Jeremy 🙂
Good one, and yes!
Thank you Nelle 🙂
I thoroughly enjoy the manner you set this topic/feelings in such a cleverly lovely but, thank goodness the voices of old still sing to us~Blessings Deb
Thanks so much, Deb. I prefer the old voice, myself 🙂
