before I knew words
to pin down & catalog
each feeling,
before I could use this voice
like peacock feathers to stroke,
or silk to seduce,
or a razor to draw blood,
about 5 times
in 45 years
(yes, I can number
& remember each
very well)
I stammered
or simply stared, openmouthed,
dumbstruck, undone, left
with absolutely nothing
to say;
that you carry me
to such speechlessness
with simply one smile
is one heartbeat,
one indrawn breath
away from impossible
& I thank God for it.
Very nicely written
Thank you Dewey!
Powerful, beautiful! A “speechless” poetess has spoken volumes in very few lines….and leaves her reader speechless!
Thank you, Noel 🙂
How does one respond to such a lovely compliment? In the spirit of the above poem, I will just shuffle my feet and blush.
This needs a better title, I think…
Beautiful. If you are speaking of a stranger (passing or from across the room) “Caught”
If speaking of your one true love “Still”
Feel free to chuckle…:)
Morning Rhonda–I have been chuckling all morning–sleep deprivation has made me giddy 🙂
Both good ideas–might be leaning more towards something like “Still.”
chuckling all morning…now that sounds like a good way to start the day.
It sure beats grumbling into a coffee mug, which is my usual MO
Silk, seduced… drawn in breath, every quixotic word! BEAUTIFUL Susan! Bless you, Deb
Thank you Deb 🙂
