he said
you are my rib
& I believed him
flesh knit to bone so tightly
we were one person
but when she
showed up,
tiny spark
& flutter
on the ultrasound
the choice was easy
for me:
if I was his rib
he could walk away
mostly whole
but she,
she was my heart
& I go
with what is essential
that was beautiful…that what i think…thanks for sharing your words
Thank you!
Yes! Great poem.:)
-Jennifer
Thanks Jennifer–another one of those that just flies from mind to fingers, and about 13 years in the making….coming out all at once
Oh wonderful! I really think creativity comes in waves with life…um, especially for me with motherhood giving me a little breath.:) So happy for you.:)
You know, Jennifer–I kinda went through the same thing–did not write for a while, all my creative energy going into mothering my kids, mothering my mom, and all of a sudden all that stuff is just pouring out, lol, if that makes any sense at all. 17 years is a long time to lie fallow, though.
Aw Susan this is superb! Zoe is your heart! BEAUTIFUL ~ Loved it! Deb
Thank you so much Deb..she was then & always will be 🙂
Beautiful – procreation and deconstruction of creation story! Mother is gold!
Thanks so much!
I have read a few or your pieces now and I just would like to say how brilliant you are. I write prose and poetry but alas my words are sometimes to simple & I feel that they should be intricate. This is lovely and I felt every word you wrote. Thank you.
Jenny–oh my goodness, thank you! I am humbled and delighted you feel that way! Nice to “met” you!
