Cicada

Perhaps now
After years of silence
& empty pages

I am finding a voice again

 Now, my words break free
Of the dry husk wrapped in layers
That kept them safely from light

Emerge from the earth singing
& fly

My song may be offensive and discordant,
But it is loud

& cannot be ignored

About Susan L Daniels

I am a firm believer that politics are personal, that faith is expressed through action, and that life is something that must be loved and lived authentically--or why bother with any of it?

To read that you are writing after such a lapse gives me hope when I feel my own words are silenced by overwork or distraction, too much of the world invading my sensibilities. This is such a brave and beautiful poem and it touched me deeply.

Reblogged this on The Heron's Path and commented:
A poem for a sister. I just read this and its simple power blew me away.

  3. I can so relate to this kind of emergence. Beautiful poem.
