No stranger to myth
I have shaped gods;
golden calves,
baby bulls of heaven
recast before any
can approximate worship
because my God is jealous
already, his world
gravid with idols
, and
iconoclastic
I would beat them
back to chains,
heavy on the neck
but so shining:
whether jewelry
or deeper bondage
I leave open
to interpretation
because both are heavy.
Instead of worship
I would have this mouth
under my solar plexus
open and speak a deeper bloom
than any made rose.

About Susan L Daniels
I am a firm believer that politics are personal, that faith is expressed through action, and that life is something that must be loved and lived authentically--or why bother with any of it?
“this mouth
under my solar plexus”…powerful, Susan.
Johnny, thank you!
I love the layout, font choice and overall form almost as much as I love the words. Brilliant.
David, thank you! This is the first of the two I promised…
Susan, You summed this up well “this mouth under my solar plexus open and speak a deeper bloom than any made rose”. Alice
Alice, thank you!
One of my favourite pieces of yours! Hands down.
Oh, thank you, Lady.
exactly what Christ would ask! Fantastic !
Deb, thank you! Had to do it, as I have been spending a lot of time in Mesopotamia, metaphorically speaking.
Faith, forms of worship and freedom of thought – any conflicts? You commence the exploration of this sensitive issue well.
Thanks, Noel. Conflict? Not sure about that, as I try to give credit where credit is due, and I think we can find the great in the small. Can one love God with a pagan abandon? I hope so.
Breathtaking.
Thank you, Paul.
Your ability to take such biblical issues and make them your own in such excellent poetry is amazing. 🙂
Celestine, thank you!
