I brought you me, translated
but you don’t like poetry,
words arranged in bouquets.
You prefer
the subtlety of phloem
reject the dizzy
of breathing the bloom

I could sense the sting of truth, but more importantly, the strength of self-belief … yet another reason to mind the adage to stop and smell the roses? Awesome poem Susan.
Thank you! Inspired by another WordPress poet–I see a series of wry little poems like this over the next week or so, until the well dries up 😉

True dat.
I’d rather put my nose in your petals any day. Phloem? This magnificent word takes me back to college. You are so dang smart. 😉
Aw, thanks! Botany. Once upon a time (before I grew things and tended them), I almost failed my botany lab because I killed my seed germination experiment twice. Who knew you couldn’t just water the seeds once, and then ignore the things for two weeks?

You’re a better gardener now, I suppose?
Much better. Oddly enough, I can only grow veggies and herbs, things that feed us, and only if they eventually go outside.
My mother, with her 30-year-old Christmas cacti and tea-fed African violets would only be half-proud 😉

Tear down the roses and throw out the violets. Give me bitter greens and lemon trees. 🙂
Bitter greens. Yum. Can’t wait for them fresh.
